Belarusian authorities hope to slightly reduce the country’s budget revenues deficit exactly by stimulating smuggling as much as possible, intelligence says.
The country’s leadership issued an unspoken instruction at the behest of the State Border Committee of Belarus – not to interfere with the realities of smuggling activities on the borders of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania. This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on Thursday, July 14.

This decision is connected with a sharp deterioration in the financial situation in the country due to sanctions imposed on the Lukashenka regime by Western countries. Therefore, the Belarusian authorities hope to slightly reduce the deficit of revenues in the country’s budget precisely by stimulating smuggling as much as possible. First of all – tobacco products of local manufacturers, – says the message.
It is assumed that the regime could partially provide the Belarusian market (and eventually the Russian Federation) with sanctioned groups of goods previously delivered from EU countries. The list is quite extensive: spare parts for vehicle equipment, household items, etc. To increase the flow of goods, the Belarusian authorities are simplifying the requirements for crossing the border from EU countries.
The border departments of Poland and Lithuania have announced the discovery of large shipments of contraband Belarusian tobacco products in trucks.
It was previously reported that a car with smuggled equipment worth $ 2.4 million was confiscated on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. The attackers illegally brought mobile phones, tablets, watches and more.
