The European Union is considering removing restrictions on Russians who have filed a lawsuit asking them to be removed from the list of sanctions. Lawyers in Europe believe their petitions are justified, media reports.
The European Union (EU) is considering removing sanctions on individual citizens of Russia. This was reported by the Bloomberg news agency, citing its own sources on Thursday, July 14th.
The report says nearly 30 people have filed a lawsuit with a request to be removed from the sanctions lists, and nearly 10 more have applied to the EU on this issue.
European lawyers have called some of these petitions justified, because. In their opinion, the prosecution evidence, which served as the basis for the imposition of restrictions, had become weak, outdated or inaccurate.
Sources did not name the people “wrong” under the penalties. The media said EU sanctions were challenged by many Russian oligarchs, in particular, Andrei Melnichenko along with his wife, Alexei Mordashov and Alisher Usmanov.
From the beginning of the war that Russia unleashed on Ukraine, the EU has added hundreds of Russians to the list of sanctions: businessmen, politicians and the military.
As part of the future seventh package of sanctions, it is planned to impose restrictions on another 50 individuals and legal entities from the Russian Federation.
Recall that since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the EU has agreed on six packages of sanctions, which include the freezing of assets and a ban on the issuance of visas to Russian oligarchs and officials, export controls, freezing of central bank assets, disconnecting banks from the SWIFT system, and banning Russia’s oil and coal imports.
In addition, it became known that the European Union could present a seventh package of anti-Russian sanctions within a week.
