Trump wants to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon to end the war in Ukraine.
Donald Trump clearly sees the end of the Russian war against Ukraine at the economic pressure in Moscow. In the economic forum in Davos, he said he would ask Saudi Arabia and OPEC countries to reduce oil prices. In his opinion, this will lead to an immediate end to the Russian-Ukrainian War.
Oil price
“If the price goes down, the war between Russia and Ukraine will end immediately,” Trump said.
He was also asked if he believed that Russia and Ukraine would come to a peace agreement at the time he again confronted the summit next year.
“You have to ask Russia about it; Ukraine is ready to make a deal,” replied the US president.
Economic Problems
Vladimir Putin admitted that the war puts a strain on the Russian economy, creating “really big problems,” in particular, high interest rates affect the industry that is not related to the war, reports of Reuters, citing an unknown source familiar with the Kremlin position.
Five of the agency’s resources said Putin was increasingly concerned about distortion during the Russian economy. Because of the poor economy – labor shortage and high stakes – the Russians believe that the war should end through negotiations, two people are familiar with the Kremlin’s thinking.
Putin was allegedly disappointed with economic problems and exaggerated high economic officials at a meeting held at the Kremlin on December 16, 2024, said two agency sources. According to them, leading Russian businessmen took part in the meeting, but central bank leader Elvira Nabiullina, was not there. A Reuters resource said after the meeting that Putin was “obviously dissatisfied” when he learned that private investment was squeezed by expensive loans.
Inflation
Within three weeks of January 2025 (January 1-20), prices in Russia rose 0.92% – more than the whole January of last year (0.86%). And food inflation has reached 11.4%, a new high since October 2022, written by The Moscow Times, citing Rosstat.
“Rosstat announced new inflation records a few hours after Putin held a meeting with government members, which he called last year” successful “for the economy,” clarified The Moscow Times.
