Find out why Stray Kids’ Bang Chan apologized to the other members after reflecting on his trainee years
Bang Chanleader of Stray Kids, recently shared an emotional reflection on his early days as a trainee during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. The touching moment moved fans, who heard the musician talk about the difficulties of his training period and how these experiences influenced his way of acting with the group members.
Recalling this challenging phase, the leader revealed that, in the early years, he went through great emotional struggles. “I’m sorry for the coldness with which I treated the members back then,” he said, explaining that his trainee period was the most difficult of his life. During that time, Bang Chan saw many of his closest friends debuting or leaving JYP Entertainment, while new trainees were constantly coming and going. This cycle of goodbyes led him to adopt a more reserved and cautious stance.
“I made the decision not to get close to anyone anymore because I didn’t want to get hurt again,” he said.
The experience was a period of great loneliness for the leader, who described his time as a trainee as “the darkest moment of my life”. He admitted that, amid so much uncertainty, he questioned what would happen to his future. It was when the other members of Stray Kids started coming into his life that everything started to change.
“The members appeared in front of me and, little by little, helped me change my view of everything”, he reported.
When asked about his leadership style, the singer did not hesitate to be honest, acknowledging that, in his early years, his rigid stance was, in large part, a way of protecting himself from the difficulties he faced. However, the dynamic with the boy group members, who have become a true family to him, has helped him mature into the attentive and caring leader that fans and his group mates admire.
STAY’s were quick to express their support on social media, thanking them for their vulnerability. Bang Chan and for always putting members and fans first, even during the most difficult times. They celebrated his personal growth and the positive impact he has on everyone around him, recognizing how far he has come since those challenging times.
It’s worth remembering that Stray Kids will be on Brazilian soil in April 2025! The group has shows scheduled in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo on the ‘dominATE Tour’. STAY’s will have the chance to see the group live for the first time in performances that promise to be unforgettable.
