Poland spent 3.7% of GDP on defense in 2024, a record figure. Rzeczpospolita reported it.
It was noted that the budget of the Ministry of Defense in 2024 after all changes reached 115.595 billion zlotys. The Ministry transferred PLN 15.6 billion to the Social Security Fund. About 100 billion zlotys were spent from the budget pool, the publication wrote.
The plan provides 47.96 billion zlotys for the costs of the Armed Forces Support Fund. According to preliminary data, the costs of building the Polish Armed Forces amount to 71.7% of the plan, that is, about 34 billion zlotys.
As the publication writes, “from both sources, costs amount to 134 billion zlotys (about $32.5 billion equivalent – ed.) spent on defense, or 3.7% of GDP in 2024.” This is a record of Polish history.
Defense spending is expected to increase further by 2025, reaching 4.7% of GDP.
