Trump offered the US government to become a half owner of the American business of TikTok in exchange for maintaining the application.
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order delaying for 75 days the ban on the popular short video app TikTok, which was supposed to be shut down on January 19. Reuters reported.
Trump has offered the US government to become a half-owner of TikTok’s US business in exchange for maintaining the app and has warned he could impose tariffs on China if Beijing does not approve the US deal with TikTok.
The order capped 48 hours of legal maneuvering and political intrigue that left millions of American TikTok users trying to figure out the fate of the app.
As you know, the short video app, used by 170 million Americans, was removed from the network shortly before the entry into force of a law in which the Chinese owner ByteDance must sell the application for national security or ban it. The next day, Trump said he had a plan to save TikTok. Within hours, the company began resuming its service in the United States.
The app and website are reportedly live, but TikTok is still not available for download on the Apple and Google app stores.
We remind you that on January 17, the US Supreme Court adopted the law that requires the blocking of TikTok if the Chinese ByteDance does not sell this platform to an American company.
