The continuation of the popular cartoon from Disney Animation Moana 2 collected more than one billion dollars at the global box office.
Moana 2, the sequel to the 2016 animated hit of the same name, achieved incredible success in theaters.
According to The Independent, the film’s box office gross exceeded US$1 billion worldwide.
In the United States, the cartoon earned $445 million, and international audiences added another $567 million. Total box office revenue was $1.009 billion.
Moana 2 was originally planned to air as a multi-episode series on the Disney+ streaming platform. However, during production, the studio decided to make it a feature film and release it in theaters. The move proved successful, as the film became one of Disney’s most successful releases of the previous year.
Moana 2 is the third Disney Animation project to cross the billion dollar mark in 2024, following Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine.
It was previously reported that Mufasa: The Lion King, a sequel to the 2019 remake of the popular classic, failed to live up to expectations at the global box office.
