The strange move by a close Trump ally has sparked controversy because of its resemblance to a “Nazi salute.”

The American billionaire and close ally of US President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, caused a wave of discussion and outrage online and on television after he made a strange gesture during his speech at the Capitol One arena on Monday, January 20.

During his emotional speech about the prospect of landing a man on Mars and planting the American flag, owner X hit himself in the chest and raised his right hand, writes the Independent . Then he turned his back to the audience and repeated the gesture backstage.

“Elon Musk got a standing ovation. Without a doubt, that was the biggest reaction of the day. You saw him come out with this weird greeting. It really looked weird,” said CNN anchor Erin Burnett.

Critics of the billionaire quickly began to express their thoughts about what kind of gesture he really meant.

“Yes, Elon did a Sieg Heil,” wrote one user on Bluesky, while others directly accused Musk of doing a “Nazi salute.”

At the same time, Musk’s fans said that with such a gesture he symbolically gave his heart to Trump voters.

Musk himself said he was not a “zig,” but gave his heart to the American people as a sign of gratitude.

As you know, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswami will lead the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) under the new administration of Donald Trump.
