Psychiatrists are calling for the resignation of Robert Fico.
The authors of the letter are two prominent figures in psychiatry and psychology, Josef Hashto and Anton Heretik. In addition to them, the letter was signed by experts from all over Slovakia.
In total, more than a hundred psychologists and psychiatrists wrote an open letter to the Prime Minister of Slovakia:
Your political behavior is characterized by an increase in the power-authoritarian style, manipulation of facts, lies, slander and attacks on political opponents, journalists and ordinary citizens who demonstrate disagreement with your policies. “You do not shy away from attacks on the families of opposition representatives,” the letter says.
They are calling for his resignation, noting the negative impact of his policies on society and international relations.
Doctors pointed out Fico’s dishonest behavior not only towards young people, but also towards Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. According to the letter, the prime minister “distancedly sends educational slaps to the student,” but several years ago, at political demonstrations, Fico, along with other members of the SMER-DS party, “encouraged the crowd to use the vulgar names of the then president.”
Fico responded to the letter on social networks. He called the authors of the letter long-time opponents of the current government and accused them of abusing their profession for political purposes. He argues that they exclude basic principles of democracy and do not respect the results of elections.
He called the activities of psychologists and psychiatrists a “shabby forum.”
