Three Israeli ministers, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, resigned in protest against the agreement reached with the Hamas group. The far-right party Otsma Yehudit left the ruling coalition.
Three Israeli ministers resigned in protest against Israel’s reconciliation with the Palestinian radical group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The three are representatives of the far-right Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) party, The Times of Israel reports.
It follows from the report that the leader of Otzma Ehudit, Israel’s Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of “crossing all ideological red lines,” calling the agreement to Hamas “a complete victory for terrorism.” -Gvir Gvir also said that such an agreement “creates the conditions for future abductions.”
Ben-Gvir’s party members resigned: Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu and Negev, Galilee and National Security Minister Yitzhak Wasserlauf. In addition, the party announced its withdrawal from the ruling coalition.
The statement indicated a willingness to return if the fight against the Hamas group continues and “continue until complete victory.”
The Minister of Finance and leader of the Religious Zionism party, Bezalel Smotrich, also criticized the ceasefire. However, after the meeting with Netanyahu, Smotrich promised not to leave the government yet, but threatened to do so if the government decides to move to the second phase of the ceasefire. Smotrich’s departure from the government could lead to early elections in Israel, Israeli media reports.
We remind you that the Israeli authorities have announced the beginning of a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
The day before, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the war with Hamas may continue if the second phase of the peace agreement fails.
