The amount collected by the 47th president’s team is more than what was collected for the two previous inaugurations.
Major American companies and private donors donated about $200 million for the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump. This amount of donations is the largest in history. The Washington Post wrote about it on Saturday, January 18, citing sources.
As the publication explains, donations at inaugurations have become a tradition in the United States. The money goes to the swearing-in ceremony, a parade, several inaugural balls and two dinners – with Trump and his wife, and Vice President JD Vance and his wife.
Donations include $1 million each from technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, Meta and Uber, as well as Boeing and Lockheed Martin.
President-elect Donald Trump returns to Washington in triumph: His court cases are behind him, corporate executives flock to Mar-a-Lago to welcome him, his inaugural committee raises records that amount of money for Monday’s ceremony, and the Republican Party is now completely under his control,” WP wrote.
The publication recalls that $62 million was donated to former President Joe Biden four years ago, and Trump himself collected more than $106 million in 2016, which still remains a record.
It was previously reported that Trump was upset that flags would be flown at half-staff at his inauguration.
