After the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, various imported goods for local markets began to arrive in the country.
Syrian authorities have banned the import of goods from Russia, Iran and Israel into the country, as well as the entry of citizens of the latter two countries. Al Arabiya reported this on Saturday, January 18, citing the Syrian Ministry of Finance.
“The Ministry of Finance of Syria has announced a ban on the import of goods originating from Iran, Israel and Russia, as well as the powers of checkpoints and ports in the country to prohibit the entry of Israelis and Iranians into Syria,” the statement said.
The publication added that goods imported from these countries will be confiscated.
The new Syrian authority explained that the decision was aimed at supporting local producers as part of efforts to increase economic activity and stimulate industry.
European Union High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said foreign ministers will meet at the end of January to discuss lifting sanctions on Syria.
Syria’s de facto leader Ahmed al-Shara said his country is ready to accept UN forces in the buffer zone created by the UN with Israel.
