Bulgaria has ended a long political crisis that has left the country without a stable government for the past several years.
The People’s Assembly of Bulgaria (parliament) approved the composition of the new government headed by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, who is a representative of the Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria – Union of Democratic Forces coalition. BNR reported this on Thursday, January 16.
125 deputies voted for the government led by Zhelyazkov, 114 were against. Immediately after the vote, the new government was sworn in. This includes three deputy prime ministers and 19 ministers.
The composition of the government was agreed upon after negotiations that culminated in an agreement between the GERB-SDPN, the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the populists from the There Are Such People party.
As is known, for the past few years, a political crisis has continued in Bulgaria due to the inability of the parliament to form a stable government. There have been seven early elections in the past four years, all of which have failed to lead to the formation of a permanent government.
