After the introduction of restrictions for the Russian energy sector, tankers with Russian oil began to stop around the world, including the coast of China.
The large-scale sanctions imposed by Washington against the Russian Federation help achieve political goals more effectively than recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. US State Department Speaker Matthew Miller announced this in a briefing on Wednesday, January 15.
“We do not believe that recognizing Russia as a sponsor of terrorism is the most effective way to achieve existing political goals when it comes to Russia,” he said.
According to him, the sanctions that have been implemented, including those introduced in recent weeks, have practical consequences. In particular, Miller noted that Russian tankers will no longer be able to ship their oil.
The representative of the State Department also emphasized that the recognition of Russia as a sponsor of terrorism will limit the activities of international humanitarian organizations and include other consequences that may affect the ability to work in the region.
US authorities have introduced new sanctions against Russia. The package of sanctions includes metallurgical plants, defense industry enterprises, banks and institutions that cooperated with Moscow – about 100 entities.
Let’s recall that on January 10, the United States announced major sanctions against Russia’s oil and gas sector. The new restrictions cover more than 400 individuals and organizations in Russia’s energy sector that directly or indirectly fund the Kremlin’s military machine. On the same day, Great Britain joined the sanctions.
Market analysts believe that the restrictions will affect Russian oil supplies to China and India.
