The Israeli government and Hamas have agreed to a deal that will halt fighting in Gaza and lead to the gradual release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners.
CNN reported this today, January 15, citing an informed source.
According to the publication, under the agreement, Hamas and associated militant groups will release 33 hostages captured by Israel during the attacks on October 7, 2023. In response, Israel will release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
Once the agreement is confirmed, it is expected that Palestinian civilians will be able to return to northern Gaza, as well as a massive influx of humanitarian aid into the strip, where residents have long faced appalling humanitarian conditions.
At the same time, the Hamas government media office in Gaza called on residents of the enclave to “not move” towards the official start of the truce.
The government press center calls on respectable citizens not to move towards the official start of the truce and to obtain information about the timing of the ceasefire from official sources, they noted.
US President-elect Donald Trump has already responded to the news of an agreement on his social network Truth Social.
We have an agreement on hostages in the Middle East. They will be fired soon. Thank you! – he wrote.
