Vladimir Putin has not changed his goals and wants not only the destruction of Ukraine, but also the entry into the established norms of international law in the world, Estonia is confident.
Estonia will defend reliable security guarantees for long-term peace in Ukraine, and its membership in the European Union and NATO is in the interests of the Baltic countries and the whole of Europe. This is what Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said on Tuesday, January 14, during a visit to Kyiv on January 14, Radio Liberty reports.
“Estonia understands that the most reliable guarantee of security lies in NATO membership and we can discuss whether the time is right to invite NATO membership for Ukraine, but I am confident that if we support the Ukraine, then the next steps should provide reliable guarantees for this,” said the minister.
Tsakhkna added that these security guarantees may be partial membership in the beginning, but with an additional perspective: “We must understand that full membership in the European Union and NATO for Ukraine provides security guarantees not only for , but also for Europe in our interest as well.”
The minister added that Estonia remains one of Ukraine’s permanent partners. Since the beginning of the massive invasion, it has provided one of the largest supports in relation to the country’s GDP, both in the military and humanitarian fields.
“This is because you fight not only for the freedom and independence of your country, it is important that you fight instead of us,” he emphasized.
Earlier, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine’s invitation to NATO should extend to the entire territory of the country within the framework of internationally recognized borders.
Estonian conservatives have proposed a bill to completely close the border with Russia.
