The decision of the Russian authorities not to provide funding for protection against drones will affect all category I airports.
The ruling regime of the Russian Federation has decided not to allocate funds from the federal budget to equip civilian airports with technical means of detecting and countering drones. The corresponding decision follows from the new version of the federal project Infrastructure development, ensuring safety and developing a specialized certification system for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). This was reported by informed sources in Vedomosti.
Previously, it was assumed that by 2028, 31 Russian airports will have anti-drone protection systems, and the Russian government will allocate more than 11 billion rubles for this. The authorities’ decision not to provide funding for protection against drones will affect all airports belonging to category 1 transport infrastructure facilities.
We are talking about airports in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Ufa, Kazan, Mineralnye Vody, Khabarovsk, Omsk, Chelyabinsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Yakutsk, Tyumen, Kaliningrad, etc.
In early December 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev announced his possible “re-planning” of the state budget. He then said that “there are subjective and objective reasons for this,” and that the expected decrease in funding would be “small,” the publication recalled.
We remind you that the Federal Air Transport Agency has announced the suspension of operations at three airports in the Federation. Temporary restrictions on the arrival and departure of aircraft have been introduced at the airports of three Russian cities: Kazan, Nizhnekamsk and Ulyanovsk.
