De Morgen’s editor-in-chief said the newspaper did not want to become a “toxic platform” where misinformation, conspiracy theories and racism spread without any moderation.
The authoritative Belgian publication De Morgen has announced that it will no longer publish posts on Elon Musk’s social network X. The publication’s editor-in-chief Remi Amkreutz wrote about this in his column, calling the reason “toxicity and misinformation on the platform.”
“Enough is enough. Elon Musk’s values are diametrically opposed to a democratic society and De Morgen. We put human rights first. Always,” he wrote.
According to Amkreutz, Elon Musk poses a danger to the United States and Europe.
He recalled Musk’s efforts to promote Donald Trump on the platform during the election campaign and his political intervention in Europe. Amkreutz noted that “Musk manipulated the algorithms and gave a megaphone to the most problematic content.”
“We just don’t want to be part of a toxic platform, and a platform where misinformation, conspiracy theories and racism gain traction without any moderation,” he said.
Amkreutz recalled that previous similar decisions were made by the British The Guardian, the Swedish Dagens Nyheter and the Spanish La Vanguardia.
Recall that the European Union promised to accelerate the investigation of Platform X due to suspicions of using social network algorithms to promote specific political figures.
