The 85-page election document contained no criticism of Russia’s actions. The majority of delegates voted against the proposal to include a corresponding clause in the manifesto.
The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has refused to condemn Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in its election manifesto, Tagesschau reports.
The document, which barely mentions the Russian invasion, was adopted at the party congress held the previous day.
Bundestag deputy Albrecht Glaser proposed adding a clause to the party program condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine. He expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the 85-page document contained no criticism of Russia’s actions in the war. In his addition, the politician noted that Russia during the war violated many norms of international law to protect civilians, and also called for the condemnation of the actions of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
However, about 69% of the 600 delegates rejected the proposal.
In the approved Alternative for Germany program, the war in Ukraine is mentioned only superficially, without criticizing Russia. The document states: “The war in Ukraine has shaken the European peace order. We see the future of Ukraine as a neutral state outside NATO and the EU.”
As you know, early elections to the Bundestag will take place on February 23.
Alice Weidel was elected as the AfD’s candidate for chancellor, promising to restore Nord Stream if she comes to power.
