More than 200 anti-tank mines were discovered in an IKEA warehouse in Poland.
The scandal involving the loss of mines containing 2.2 tons of explosives led to the dismissal of Polish Major General Artur Kienpczynski, who served as head of the Armed Forces Support Inspectorate. This was announced by Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamisz.
According to the Polish publication Onet, the mines, packed in 40 boxes, traveled for eleven days without registration and ended up in one of the IKEA warehouses.
The incident occurred back in July 2024, when TM-62M mines were transported from a military compound near Szczecin. The soldiers responsible for unloading them did not notice some of the mines – and they “drove further across the territory of Poland.” General Kenpczynski was aware of the incident, but did not report it or take any action.
After discovering the disappearance, the prosecutor’s office began an investigation, but the case made no progress. During the investigation, one of the soldiers, who was accused of improper supervision of military property, could not withstand the pressure and committed suicide.
