The incident was the result of a DDoS attack, where the attackers deliberately overloaded the servers with many requests, making websites and applications impossible to access.
The Swiss Federal Administration was targeted by hackers on Friday morning. According to the Federal Office of Information Technology and Telecommunications (FOITT), telephones, emails, websites and special applications were attacked. This was reported by Swissinfo on Friday, January 10.
The system experienced an outage of approximately 45 minutes. At the same time, as assured by the government, there is no data leakage.
“Thanks to the measures taken, the situation has stabilized,” FOITT representatives said.
The incident was the result of a DDoS attack, where the attackers deliberately overloaded the servers with many requests, making it impossible to access websites and applications.
The FOITT and the Federal Office for Cyber Security (FOCBS) are currently jointly analyzing the attack and determining the appropriate measures.
The federal administration has been the target of hackers several times. In particular, in June 2024, at a conference in Ukraine in Bürgenstock, it was found that federal websites were overloaded due to attacks from pro-Russian hackers.
Experts note that this type of cyber attack is becoming more common, and that governments must continue to improve cyber defense measures.
Let’s recall that foreign hackers broke into the IT systems of the Hungarian government agency responsible for defense procurement.
