Russia threatens Europe’s security not only with its war against Ukraine, but also with cut cables, displaced border buoys, disinformation campaigns, and damaged oil tankers.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock said the incident in the Baltic Sea with a Russian tanker running aground near a German island was confirmation of Russia’s threats to other countries. Ukrinform reported this on Friday, January 10.
“Russia threatens our security in Europe not only with its war of aggression against Ukraine, which violates international law, but also with cut cables, displaced border buoys, disinformation campaigns, GPS jamming systems, and broken -broken oil tanker,” Burbock insisted.
The minister added that this is exactly the scenario that he and his colleagues from the Baltic Sea region have repeatedly warned against.
“By maliciously using a fleet of rusty tankers, Putin not only avoids sanctions, but also agrees that tourism in the Baltic Sea will stop – either in the Baltics, or in Poland, or here in Germany the Russian plan… All those who turn a blind eye to this threat, are as negligent as those who described NordStream 2 as a purely economic project,” said the head of the department.
Along with its partners, Berbock has spent months consistently promoting the idea of adding Russia’s shadow fleet to the sanctions list.
We remind you that the Russian oil tanker Eventin, carrying 99 thousand tons of oil, ran aground on the island of Rügen in Germany.
As you know, on December 26, three communication cables between Estonia and Finland failed. The tanker Eagle S is suspected, which may be part of the “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation.
