The European Union will be ready to take the lead in supporting Ukraine.
The EU will accept this initiative if the new administration of the United States of America does not want to support the Ukrainian people. This was stated by the head of EU diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, on January 9, Politico reports.
I am truly confident that all other members, and hopefully also the United States, are committed to continuing to support Ukraine. The EU is also ready to take on this leadership if the US does not want it, she noted.
The diplomat also added that there should be no speculation about future US support, and that it is not in America’s interests for Russia to become “the most powerful force in the world.”
At the same time, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin called on the future Donald Trump administration to continue supporting Ukraine within the Ramstein format. The head of the Pentagon emphasized that in 2022, the United States provided Ukraine with more than two million artillery shells and more than 20 thousand missiles.
This coalition supported them throughout almost three difficult years of war. And we shouldn’t stop now,” he said.
Let us recall that on January 9, as part of the Ramstein meeting, Ukraine’s allies agreed on plans to support its defense capability until 2027. Leaders of eight coalitions, including the United States, released a joint statement agreeing on eight roadmaps aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense and promoting its integration with NATO.
