Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin as part of a meeting of the Defense Contact Group of Ukraine in the Ramstein format in Germany. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian leader on Thursday, January 9.
“Vladimir Zelensky and Lloyd Austin discussed in detail the situation on the battlefield, especially in the Pokrovsky direction, and the course of the Kursk operation,” the message said.
The interlocutors noted the decisive role of drones in the current phase of the war. Zelensky also spoke about Ukraine’s defense needs for various types of UAVs.
“Ukraine’s strong position on the battlefield is important for bringing a just and lasting peace,” the head of state emphasized.
Another of the main topics of the meeting was the implementation of the decisions of the Washington NATO summit, especially the strengthening of the Ukrainian air defense. Prospects for providing additional systems, especially in cooperation with other partners, were discussed.
“Among the issues discussed are further coalition activities in the Ramstein format and the launch of the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) initiative,” the press service added.
We remind you that today Lloyd Austin announced the allocation of a package of military aid to Ukraine in the amount of $500 million in a Ramstein format meeting. The Pentagon later announced a list of weapons included in this package.
