In the Russian city of Engels, the fire at an oil depot has been burning for more than 14 hours. Fire engulfed new fuel containers and explosions were heard again, Russian Telegram channels reported on Wednesday, January 8.
An oil depot in the Saratov region, which supplied fuel to the Engels-2 military airport, began to burn more intensely, one of the local residents reported. According to him, another tank caught fire there, ASTRA reports.
Meanwhile, the governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin, announced the introduction of a state of emergency in the city of Engels.
“Due to the increase in the area of fire in an industrial enterprise attacked by a UAV, an emergency situation will be introduced to Engels,” he said on Telegram.
According to the official, two employees of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry were killed. At the same time, he tried to reassure local residents by the fact that in Engels it seems that no excessive levels of harmful substances in the air have been recorded.
Earlier on Wednesday, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed a strike on an oil depot in the city of Engels, Saratov region. There, an oil depot that supplied fuel for Russian strategic aircraft caught fire.
