For more than a month, Germany has been blocking 9 billion euros with European Union assistance to Ukraine, an Italian publication reports.
Germany has been blocking a € 9 billion aid package for more than a month, which should be the main form of EU support for Ukraine. It was written by the Italian edition of the Corriere della Sera.
According to the newspaper, the idea of †‹вЂ‹ 9 billion aid, born in the spring, was confirmed by all EU leaders at the end of May. The project provides loans in Kyiv with repayment for 25 years and virtually no interest, thanks to funds collected by the European Commission by providing market debt obligations guaranteed by European states. But Germany, the largest and strongest guarantor of this form of Eurobond, opposes such a project.
According to journalists, the allocation of funds was not approved by German Finance Minister Christian Lindner, who opposed providing assistance to Ukraine through a common debt to Europe, as happened during the pandemic.
Today the German minister has only approved the first tranche in the amount of 1 billion, the funds from which must be paid to Ukraine by the end of July.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine they express the need to provide assistance in the amount of $ 5 billion a month. According to the newspaper, this is due to the fact that in September Ukraine threatened not to repay its external debt in the amount of 900 million euros.
Earlier it was learned that Ukraine had received more than 445 million euros of a loan from the World Bank, a US grant for $ 1.3 billion and a loan from Japan in the amount equivalent to approximately $ 500 million.
The European Commission proposed to give Ukraine a tranche of 1 billion euros
