A ceasefire would give Putin time to rest, rearm, and strike again in the future.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the ceasefire could give Russian President Vladimir Putin time to rearm and prepare for another full-scale attack on Ukraine in the future. He mentioned this in an interview with The New York Times.
“Putin is unlikely to give up his ambitions. If there is a ceasefire, then, in his opinion, it will give him time to rest, rearm and attack again in the future. Therefore, “It is very important that any ceasefire is reached by the parties. It gives Ukraine the ability to prevent further aggression. This could take different forms,” Blinken said.
However, Ukraine’s membership in NATO or security guarantees from other states may be limiting factors.
Blinken also emphasized that the decision to end the war should be made exclusively by Ukrainians.
Let’s remember that in September, President Zelensky said that there will be no freeze in the war in the Russian Federation, because during the ceasefire, the Russians will prepare and attack Ukraine again.
