Biden ordered flags to be flown at half-staff for a month in mourning for the death of 39th US President Jimmy Carter.
US President-elect Donald Trump is not happy that American flags will be flown at half-mast at his inauguration on January 20 in honor of the late President Jimmy Carter. He wrote about it on his social network Truth Social, Reuters reports.
It was noted that President Joe Biden ordered the flags to be lowered within 30 days of Carter’s death on December 29, as is customary when a US president dies.
Trump, who announced plans to attend Carter’s memorial service in Washington on Jan. 9, expressed criticism in a Truth Social post that flags will remain in a state of mourning during his swearing-in. .
“Democrats are excited about the fact that our wonderful American flag will be flown at half-mast during my inauguration. They think it’s wonderful and they’re very happy about it because they don’t really love our country. , they only think about yourself,” Trump said.
He noted that because of Carter’s death last week, the American flag “will be flown at half-mast for the first time in history during the inauguration of a future president.”
“Nobody wants to see it, and no American can be happy about it. We’ll see how it works,” he said.
Meanwhile, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the White House has no plans to reconsider the decision.
It will be remembered that the 39th President of the United States and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, member of the Democratic Party, Jimmy Carter (1977-1981), died on December 29.
