In the Nikolaev region on December 28, 2024, a Russian UAV hit a tank with vegetable oil.
As a result, the soil and water areas of the bays of the Bug Estuary were polluted with approximately 1 thousand 800 tons of sunflower oil. The press service of the Ministry of Environment reported this today, January 3.
A vegetable oil stain was recorded over an area of 1000 square meters. m layer of about 1 cm. On January 2, the area of contamination increased to 9000 sq. m. m, and the thickness of the layer in some areas reached 10 cm, the department said.
It is noted that:
- at some sampling points the content of pollutants in fats and oils is 189.7 mg/dm³;
- State Emergency Service specialists have already carried out bonding of two bays of the Bug Estuary to prevent further spread of pollution;
- work is also being carried out to collect vegetable oil, take water and soil samples for laboratory research. About 45 tons of vegetable oil have already been collected from two bays of the Bug Estuary;
- The collection and analysis of materials to calculate the damage caused to the environment continues.
According to preliminary calculations, the estimated amount of damage is UAH 45 billion. Work to eliminate the consequences of pollution continues.
