Tiraspol said it is now waiting for the resumption of gas supplies by Russian Gazprom under the contract.
The self-proclaimed Transnistrian Moldavian Republic (PMR) did not take advantage of Moldova’s offer to buy gas from Europe. Local authorities are hoping for continued supplies from Russian Gazprom. The interim acting head of the Moldovagaz company, Vadim Ceban, stated this in a commentary to IPN.
The Moldovan company offered the management of Tiraspoltransgaz assistance in purchasing gas through European platforms after the region was left without Russian gas supplies since January 1.
In a response sent on January 2, the Russian-controlled Transnistrian “authority” rejected the proposal and said it would lead to gas purchases at “higher and unstable” prices.
PMR is hoping for the continuation of gas supplies by Russian Gazprom under the contract, which expires in 2026.
As you know, on January 1, Ukraine suspended Russian gas transit. The contract with Gazprom has expired. As a result, gas supplies to Transnistria (left bank) via Moldova (right bank) were also stopped. The buyer of gas from Gazprom is its subsidiary Moldovagaz, which sends the entire volume of purchased fuel to Transnistria.
Right-bank Moldova has been buying gas for domestic needs from European suppliers for several years, while Transnistria has been left without gas, heat and hot water.
