About 664,000 people remain internally displaced across Syria, mainly in Idlib and Aleppo provinces.
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad, more than 115,000 citizens have returned to Syria, living in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon, among others. This was reported by the UN Refugee Agency.
These data are based on public statements by host countries, contacts with immigration officials inside Syria, and border monitoring by the Agency and partners.
The number of Syrians leaving Lebanon through official border crossings remains “low but stable,” the report said.
According to Jordan, more than 22,000 people have entered Syria through its territory, of which 3,100 are registered refugees.
There is also movement of Syrian refugees across the border into Iraqi Kurdistan. This, according to the UN, is about 300-400 people every day.
In Egypt, the UN agency reportedly receives a higher than average number of closure requests from Syrian refugees: between 8 and 29 December, 1,448 closure requests were submitted, affecting 2,695 people, an average of 97 requests per day compared to November’s average of 7 requests for closure.
However, around 664,000 people remain internally displaced across Syria, mainly in Idlib and Aleppo provinces. Most of them – 75% – are women and children. In addition, nearly 486 thousand internally displaced people returned to their places of residence, mainly in the provinces of Hama and Aleppo.
We remind you that human rights activists discovered a mass grave near Damascus. There, they counted at least 100 thousand people who died during the reign of the country’s former president Bashar al-Assad.
It was also reported that the UN investigative team received access to the investigation of crimes in Syria.
