Before the car exploded, the driver shot himself in the head. According to preliminary data, this is an American military person.
Police believe the Tesla Cybertruck explosion near the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas was an act of suicide. Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMehill said this at a press conference on Thursday, January 2, the Washington Post reports.
“According to investigators, the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck near the Trump International Hotel on Wednesday was likely an act of suicide,” the publication noted.
An investigation determined the driver suffered a gunshot wound to the head before the vehicle exploded, the sheriff said. One of the guns found in the car was at the feet of the man behind the wheel, he said.
The sheriff added that investigators do not have final confirmation of the driver’s identity because the man’s body was burned beyond recognition and further investigative steps are needed. Still, he continued, there was plenty of evidence pointing to the driver, Trooper Matthew Livelsberger, 37, of Colorado Springs.
At the time of his death, Livelsberger was serving in a special forces unit in Germany.
We remind you that a Tesla Cybertruck exploded near the Trump hotel in Las Vegas on the morning of Wednesday, January 1, resulting in one death and seven injuries. The only victim was inside the vehicle. Police later said “cans of gasoline and large fireworks were found in the trunk of the car.”
