In December 2024, the majority of Ukrainians (57%) were ready to endure the war “as long as necessary.”
From the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine to December 2024, the number of Ukrainians willing to endure war “as long as necessary” decreased by 14%. This is confirmed by the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.
From the beginning of the invasion until February 2024, the situation remained almost unchanged: about 71-73% of people said they were ready to endure the war “as long as necessary,” and another 2-3% said they can endure the war for a year. At the same time, 18-21% indicated willingness to endure from several months to six months.
However, between February and October 2024, for the first time, a reduction was recorded in the share of those willing to hold “as long as necessary” – up to 63%.
From October to December 2024, this number drops slightly again, reaching 57%. And the share of those who say they are ready to endure only a few months or six months remained almost unchanged – 21% in December compared to 18% in October, that is, still within the first 18-21%.
At the same time, the proportion of those who could not decide on an answer increased. The number of such respondents increased from 12% in October to 18% in December.
The survey was conducted on December 2-17. 985 Ukrainians aged 18 years and older in Ukrainian-controlled territories were interviewed by telephone.

Let us recall that earlier sociologists noted a downward trend on the part of people who are optimistic about Ukraine’s future.
Almost half of Ukrainians are confident that Trump’s victory will bring peace closer
