Starting January 1, Poland received the presidency of the European Union, which in Kyiv is considered a positive step for both the EU and Ukraine.
The war in Ukraine “is absolutely decisive” for Poland’s security. Accordingly, Poland’s position regarding this war is consistent and unchanging – victory must go to Ukraine. Polish President Andrzej Duda said this on Tuesday, December 31, in his New Year’s address to the country.
“Since the beginning of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, the war going on across our eastern border has been absolutely essential for our security. Our position has been consistent and unchanging. This war cannot end in a Russian victory. It should end in a just peace that will eliminate the possibility of a new, bigger conflict in the future,” Duda said.
Poland’s security, he said, rested on two pillars. It is a “strong and modern army” and “the strength of our alliances.”
“Only a strong NATO, led by the United States, ensures the security of Poland and our entire region,” he emphasized.
Duda added that the first priority of the Polish presidency of the European Union, which begins on January 1, is to strengthen cooperation between the EU and the United States.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at the last government meeting in 2024 that Poland would experience “positive success” in 2025.
