The social network TikTok has been fined for spreading dangerous viral challenges to children.
Venezuela’s highest court has fined TikTok $10 million over a viral challenge that killed three children and injured dozens in recent months. Bloomberg reported this.
The social network must pay the fine to the country’s telecommunications agency within ten days. The money from the fine will go to a compensation fund for victims.
The court also ordered TikTok to open an office in Venezuela to monitor compliance with legal standards established in the country.
Last month, a court summoned TikTok officials for questioning in connection with the deaths of three children aged 12, 13 and 14. The teenagers took part in a challenge that involved consuming, inhaling and distributing dangerous substances. which is a chemical mixture.
The judges said TikTok was responsible for not promptly following up on challenges to its platform.
