Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree appointing Olga Reshetilova (Kobylinskaya) as the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the protection of the rights of military personnel and members of military families.
Zelensky announced this today, December 30, in his Telegram channel.
Olga is a well-known, experienced and effective Ukrainian human rights activist. “I have already done a lot to develop our state institutions and to support Ukrainians,” he emphasized. — Now the main task is to prepare, together with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, together with civil society, a bill on the military ombudsman and all the necessary systemic foundations for the work of this institution.
Our soldiers must receive effective tools to protect their rights and there must be a real modernization of people management in the Ukrainian Defense Forces. I am grateful to everyone who helps with this,” Zelensky added.
The website of the Media Initiative for Human Rights notes that Reshetilov has long experience in journalism, in particular, she worked as an editor of the regional network department in the Den newspaper, and was a special correspondent for the Russian liberal media Grani.Ru in Ukraine.
In 2014, she co-founded the “Come Back Alive” foundation, where she was responsible for coordinating its work with law enforcement agencies and directly with the forces and means of the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. In 2015, she left the foundation and focused on journalistic and public investigations of violations in the security sector.
In 2019, she was appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers to the Commission for the election of the head of the NAPC.
