The Ukrainian delegation led by Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga met in Damascus with the de facto leader of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa.
In the Syrian capital, a ceremonial raising of the Ukrainian flag took place at the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine. Minister Sibiga met with Ukrainian society and Honorary Consul Tamer Al-Tunsi. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Monday, December 30.
“Historical footage. Flag raised over the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Damascus, Syria,” the message said.
Minister Sibiga, together with Honorary Consul Tamer Al-Tunsi, spoke to the Ukrainian community in Syria.
Let’s add that Sibiga arrived on a visit to Damascus, where he met with the head of the new Syrian administration and the leader of the Islamist movement Hayat Tahrir al-Sham Ahmed al-Sharaa.
Let’s recall that on Friday, President Vladimir Zelensky announced that Ukraine sent 500 tons of flour to Syria as part of the Grain from Ukraine program in cooperation with the World Food Program.
Also last week, Zelensky said that a strategy for Syria was being developed. And the Foreign Ministry reported that contact has been established with the new Syrian authorities at the level of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
