The appointment comes amid calls for Syrian women to be included in Syria’s new government.
The Syrian administration announced the appointment of Maysa Sabrin as head of the central bank of Syria. This was reported by Al Arabiya on Monday, December 30.
In the past, Sabrin held several important positions in the Central Bank, in particular, he was the first deputy head and director for administration. In addition, he headed the Banking Supervision Department.
Since 2018, Sabrin has been a member of the board of directors of the Damascus Stock Exchange, representing the central bank.
The appointment comes amid calls for Syrian women to be included in Syria’s new government.
Reuters said Sabreen will be the first woman to head the institution in its more than 70-year history, replacing Mohammed Issam Hazime.
Recently, Aisha al-Dibas was appointed head of the Office of Women’s Affairs, becoming the first woman to hold an official position in the new Syrian administration.
Let’s remember that the Syrian revolutionaries assured the United States that they will not allow the Islamic State militants to join their actions against the remnants of the government of Bashar al-Assad.
