The Helsinki was sent to the area where the ship, tugboat and patrol vessel Turva were moored, the coast guard said.
The Finnish Coast Guard said the Panamanian-registered ship M/T Jazz, en route from Sudan to Russia, stopped in the Ganko area due to a technical problem. The Finnish publication Yle reported this on Monday, December 30.
The ship sailed to Primorsk, but dropped anchor south of Ganko. Previously, the ship was adrift in the Gulf of Finland.
The Coast Guard contacted the crew of the M/T Jazz. The ship was carrying no oil; infrastructure on the seabed was not damaged by M/T Jazz.
The coast guard noted that this incident had nothing to do with damage to the Estlink 2 cable.
Finland sent a tug and patrol vessel Turva to the area where the ship was located.
As we already wrote, on December 25, damage was discovered on the Estlink 2 power cable running between Estonia and Finland. The next day, it was learned that three more cables in the Baltic had been damaged.
The Eagle S tanker, which belongs to the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation, is suspected of being involved in the damage to the electrical cable. According to media reports, spy equipment was discovered on this ship.
