Vlidomir Putin instructed Fico to open a second energy front against Ukraine at the expense of the interests of the people of Slovakia.
Thus, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said in response to the Slovak leader’s threats to stop exporting electricity through his country to Ukraine.
Zelensky believes that “only this can mean Fico’s threats to cut off Ukraine’s emergency supplies of electricity in winter” in the face of Russian attacks on our power plants and distribution network.
The President reminded Fico that Ukraine’s need to import electricity arose only because of Russia’s occupation of our Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and the deliberate destruction by Russian missiles and “martyrs” of a significant part of Ukrainian thermal and hydroelectricity generation.
Thanks to the heroic work of our energy workers and life-saving cooperation with the EU, USA, Great Britain, Norway, Japan and our other partners, we did not allow a blackout in Ukraine. Now Fico is also dragging Slovakia into Russia’s attempt to hurt the Ukrainians.
Zelensky reminded Robert Fico that supporting criminal Russian aggression is absolutely immoral. In addition, Fico’s short-sighted policy has already left the people of Slovakia without compensation for the loss of Russian gas transit, and may also leave the people of Slovakia at least another 200 million dollars. dollars annually that Ukraine pays for imported electricity.
Importing electricity for rescue is not free, and it is a significant expense. Thirdly, for everyone in Europe and, in particular, for the people of Slovakia, it will be more profitable from all points of view to cooperate with neighbors and the EU in order to increase the supply of energy resources to Europe, in particular gas from America and other partners, and only this can reduce the price of energy for most families,” Zelensky wrote in a Telegram.
The President said that Slovakia’s share in electricity imports to Ukraine is about 19%. The Ukrainian government is working with other EU states to maintain adequate electricity supply, and Slovakia is part of the single European energy market and Fico must respect EU-wide rules.
Any arbitrary decisions in Bratislava or orders from Moscow for Fico on electricity will not lead to a stop in the import of electricity to Ukraine, but they can definitely lead to a break between the current government of Slovakia and the European community,” the President of Ukraine noted.
