Russian dictator Vladimir Putin apologized to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the plane crash in Kazakhstan. The telephone conversation took place on the initiative of the Russian side. The Kremlin press service reports this.
“Vladimir Putin apologizes for the fact that the tragic incident took place in Russian airspace, and once again expresses his deep and sincere condolences to the families of the victims, and wishes for the speedy recovery of the victims,” said of the statement.
The plane repeatedly tried to land at Grozny airport, which at that moment was under attack by Ukrainian drones, the press service assured.
It was also mentioned in the conversation that Russian air defense systems repelled this attack.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case under an article on the violation of traffic safety rules and air transport operations. As part of this case, “civilian and military specialists” are being investigated.
Two employees of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan are already in Grozny, where they are working with colleagues in Russia.
As is known, on December 25, an Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed in Aktau, Kazakhstan, flying on a Baku-Grozny flight. 38 people died then. There were a total of 67 people on board, mostly Azerbaijani citizens.
The previous day, the media reported that the plane was attacked on approach to Grozny by a missile from the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft system. The Russians barred crews from landing at Russian airfields and jammed electronic war communications.
