Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico criticized the Ukrainian authorities for refusing to continue the transit of Russian gas after 2024 and promised to consider retaliatory measures.
He said that after January 1, 2025, when the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine will be stopped, the Slovak government will “assess the situation and the possibilities of response measures.”
Stopping the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine in 2025-2026 alone will cost the EU 120 billion euros. Due to a stop in transit, gas prices will rise, which will further weaken the European economy. gas supplies, Slovakia will be at the end of the chain, and not at the beginning, as before, Slovakia will lose about half a billion euros for transit, Ukraine – almost a billion euros, will probably lose only 2.5 billion euros. Slovakia, right, Mr. Zelensky? But if you need something to keep you warm in the winter, you scream. Fico stated.
If necessary, Fico said, Bratislava will stop supplying electricity to Ukraine or “agree on another course of action.”
After January 1, we will assess the situation and potential retaliatory measures against Ukraine. If necessary, we will stop supplying electricity, which Ukraine urgently needs during a network outage,” Reuters quotes the Slovakian as saying.
Previously, all Ukrainian officials, including President Vladimir Zelensky, refused to allow the Slovaks to transport Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine, which is waging a war for survival with the regime of Vladimir Putin.
The transit was the subject of negotiations between Fico and the war criminal in Moscow during a visit on December 22.
After the meeting, the Slovak Prime Minister said that the routes are ready to continue gas supplies to the West and Slovakia. However, according to Fico, this is practically impossible after January 1, 2025 due to the position of Ukraine.
