Ghebreyesus and his colleagues were waiting to board a plane at the airport when the air attack began.

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and his colleagues were criticized at an airport in Yemen. Gebreyes wrote this on Thursday, December 26, on his page on the X network.

According to the head of the WHO, he is in the country on a mission to assess the humanitarian situation and negotiate the release of UN staff held by the Houthis. While waiting to board a plane at Sanaa airport, an air attack began.

As a result of the bombing, a crew member of the ship that was supposed to fly the officer was injured. At least two people in the airport building were killed. The runway, the flight control tower and the departure lounge were destroyed – as Gebreyes wrote, “a few meters from where we were.”

The WHO chief emphasized that he and his UN colleagues were unharmed, but had to wait for the airport infrastructure to be restored before leaving Yemen.

Let’s remember that in October last year Yemen declared war on Israel. Since then, the country has been subject to periodic airstrikes. And last week, the Yemeni Houthis attacked the Israeli city of Tel Aviv with a rocket.
