The businesses that own them said the outages had no noticeable impact on end users.
Three communication cables between Estonia and Finland failed. Estonian portal ERR reported this on Thursday, December 26.
“The cause of the outages is unknown at the moment, but the cable owners are working to fix them and it has not affected end users,” said Laura Laster, spokesperson for the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.
According to the technical supervision department, two communication cables owned by Elisa concern were damaged and one communication cable owned by CITIC Telecom was damaged.
Both companies said that the delays had no noticeable impact on end users, and that all services and communications between Estonia and Finland were running.
External connections to Estonia have doubled several times. Thus, in the event of a submarine cable break, alternative working sea cables or underground cables can be used to provide cross-border Internet connectivity and the operation of various services.
We remind you that the Finnish national power grid operator Fingrid has announced damage to the Estlink 2 undersea power cable connecting Finland and Estonia.
