Nordic leaders pointed to the threat from Russia and said they needed to strengthen Europe’s defenses.

Finland can, if necessary, mobilize 280 thousand troops in a week. President Alexander Stubb announced this on Wednesday, December 25, writes The Independent newspaper.

“They can be mobilized and armed within a week,” Stubb said.

Stubb also confirmed the Finnish military’s readiness to conduct operational mobilization in the event of a security threat.

As the newspaper recalls, Finland spends just over 2.4% of GDP on defense. In addition, about 20% of the country’s 5.5 million residents undergo military training.

Ukraine’s victory over Russia is crucial to the defense of a weakly armed Europe, as NATO is “unprepared” to fight Vladimir Putin’s Russia without the United States. This statement was made by the leaders of Finland, Latvia and Estonia.

We remind you that earlier the President of Finland agreed to provide Ukraine with a new aid package worth 25 million euros.

As reported, Ukraine and Finland have created a civil defense coalition to build a system of modern shelters.
