Previously, Fico personally went to Kyiv to convince the Ukrainian government to extend Russian gas transit.
Slovakia criticized Prime Minister Robert Fico’s visit to Moscow to meet dictator Vladimir Putin, calling it a “betrayal” of the country’s allies and interests. It was reported by Aktuality.sk.
In particular, the leader of the opposition party Progressive Slovakia, Michal Šimečko, called his visit “a shame for the country and a betrayal of national interests.”
“If the prime minister is really concerned about gas transit, he should have talked to the Ukrainian authorities, and not made Slovakia an instrument of Russian propaganda,” he said.
Ivan Korcok, a member of the presidium of the opposition Progressive Slovakia party, called the trip a “turning point.” He noted that Fico suffered a setback in Brussels, because no one in the European Union supported his request to maintain gas transit to Ukraine.
“After that, Fico decided to stand next to the Russian dictator. This is a betrayal of the allies and Slovakia, it is a change in our foreign policy, where the prime minister has no mandate,” said Korcok.
Freedom and Solidarity Party leader Bronislav Gröling called Fico an “ordinary collaborator” and said that in this way Slovakia found itself “in international isolation.”
“We are sending a message to Vladimir Putin and all slavish pro-Russian politicians that Robert Fico does not speak for the entire country,” Grelling concluded.
Earlier it was reported that the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico arrived in Moscow.
Fico also threatened Ukraine with “measures” for stopping gas transit from Russia to Europe next year.
