Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili responded to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s request to step down after his term. He said that he remains loyal to the Constitution of Georgia, and that he is still the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Georgian Armed Forces, as well as the president of all citizens of Georgia. SOVA reported this on Sunday, December 22.
“I remain loyal to the country, to the Constitution, to which I swore an oath six years ago, this Constitution, which has been trampled on, but stands, as Georgia stands, I can only continue and be loyal to it.
Let’s recall that Irakli Kobakhidze said that President Salome Zurabishvili should step down after the end of her term in office. He threatened her with jail if she refused.
Let’s add that on December 14, the presidential election was held in Georgia. The electoral college elected Mikhail Kavelashvili as president. The current leader, Salome Zurabishvili, does not recognize the election results.
