There is still no talk of shooting down targets in Ukrainian airspace, the Polish Ministry of Defense emphasized.
Poland, under certain conditions, is ready to shoot down Russian missiles on its territory that are being used by Russian troops to attack Ukraine. This is what Defense Minister Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh said in an interview with the Voice of America.
“We have prepared an air defense system, we also have improved air defense. We are talking about the Rzeszow airport, which was transferred under the protection of NATO. Our allies USA, Great Britain, Germany, Norway and other countries are protecting us in the air base. And when this airspace is violated, the missile or drone will be brought down,” he explained.
According to the minister, there is still no talk about shooting targets in Ukrainian airspace, because NATO does not have a decision on this matter.
“Usually we alert our F-16s to act accordingly if there is a threat to Poland to protect our territory… There has never been a case where a missile was aimed at a target on Polish territory, but yes, when last week the Polish F-16s took off and were ready to defend the territory near the border,” said Kosinyak-Kamysh.
Let’s recall that the NASAMS air defense system and F-35 fighters were deployed in Rzeszow, Poland, to protect the logistics center for aid to Ukraine.
