The one-year ban on the application was provoked by the murder of a schoolboy, which appeared after a conflict on the social network.

The Albanian government has announced a one-year ban on the TikTok app for inciting violence among young people. Prime Minister Eddie Rama announced this on Saturday, December 21, Reuters reports.

“We will completely close it (access to TikTok – ed.) for everyone within a year. There will be no TikTok in Albania,” Rama said after meeting with groups of parents and teachers from across the country.

The ban, which is part of a broader plan to improve school safety, will take effect in early 2025, he said.

Rama blamed social media, particularly TikTok, for inciting violence among young people inside and outside of school.

The government’s decision was made after an incident near an Albanian school, where a 14-year-old boy was killed by his classmate. Local media reported that the incident took place in November following an argument between the two men on social media.

We remind you that the head of the European Commission is not lifting the ban on TikTok in the EU either. Ursula von der Leyen assured that “the EU government is well aware of how dangerous TikTok is.”
