The head of the German Ministry of Defense also called for a significant increase in the German defense budget.
The German military must be fit for war if the head of the ruling regime of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, attacks. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said this in an interview with Funke Media Group newspapers, Spiegel reports.
He also called for a significant increase in the defense budget.
“From 2028 we need a defense budget of at least 80 billion, probably 90 billion euros annually, to meet the demands we have because of the worsening security situation… If Putin attacks, we have to fight a war”, emphasized the German official.
He also proposed reforming the debt brake to finance billions of dollars in spending.
“If we finance the necessary expenses for our defense from the regular budget, it will hinder the state’s ability to act, endanger social security and thus strengthen extremist parties,” he explained.
The minister also rejected a new special fund for the Bundeswehr. According to him, a certain amount can be used to purchase new materials.
“But we will not consider long-term maintenance, repairs or additional personnel as these are not paid from a special fund,” the official added.
As you know, Ukraine began to produce 155 mm shells. Previously, the respective licenses were issued by the Norwegian-Finnish company Nammo and the German-French KNDS/Nexter.
